Windows 7

I have considered many times leaving vista behind for XP or Linux but have never brought myself to do so, 7 seems a good time to do just that.
Home Priemium seems to have many of the features you would expect however other options add the XP virtulisation. Have any of you experianced use with it and is it required to run those older programs eg Starcraft as i dont want to shell out another £60 odd pounds for that feature should i not need it.
Also have they sorted out the networking in 7? vista seems slow when it comes to dealing with the network and files in addition the network management seems way too over simplified meaning sooo many sub menus to do something simple (very fustrating when trying to make a quick change).
I have read many of the reviews out there but would still like some input from people i know and who would use the machine for and in a similar way to myself.

Windows Vista is meant to be the Windows ME, and Windows 7 the Windows XP. So it meant to be really good, really fast and really stable. From what I've seen of it at Adams it certainly feels better than Vista, but I haven't had much use of it.
Mine will be coming on Monday probably so I'll be able to get some more idea on it then. Best guy to ask this is Adam but I don't know if he's around that often... he had Windows 7 since Beta as he is official beta tester IIRC.
As for networking... Windows 7 introduces SMB3, so file sharing between Windows 7 / 2008 R2 machines will be phenominally improved. When between XP and Vista though it drops to legacy SMB2 which has been around since 98... lol
Windows 7 also has the newer version of User Access Control. They took all the feedback from UAC in Vista and pretty much improved it based on it all. It's supposed to be less intrusive yet still more secure.

Windows XP mode is awesome though lmao. You have a Windows XP window just floating around your Windows 7 desktop... looks really out of place and feels quite cool actually

If you look closely you can see the Kapoks server
BTL-DNS01 (Has all the DNS. We don't actually use this for work at moment as you can see by the Test label)
EzonateSvr01 (Hosts the web site, FTP, email, etc.)

I was running the RTM code since mid July (RTM'd on 14th July)
Only difference between Pro and Ultimate is Bitlocker.
And XPM mode is really good, but not intended for gaming.
Gaming on Windows 7 is better than Windows Vista and application compatibility is brilliant and most things should work fine because the kernal is 6.1 (so only classed as a minor upgrade to 6).
